A New Equilibrium for the Redefined Weapons Program and Complex

چکیده
1993 Number 21 Los Alamos Science As we look back on the fifty-year history of Los Alamos National Laboratory, we can be justifiably proud of the accomplishments that are the foundation of our rich heritage. While the nation faced World War II and then the Cold War, we developed nuclear and thermonuclear explosives. In the early years we were also instrumental in developing the manufacturing technologies employed at the production plants in the nuclear weapons complex. Over the intervening decades we met the challenges of changing national security needs. As weapons-delivery systems changed and the need for lighter, smaller, and more specialized warheads became apparent, we developed weightand size-optimized designs. As increased attention was directed toward warhead safety and security, we developed insensitive high explosives, fire-resistant weapon components, and other enhanced surety (safety/security) design features. Once again the security needs of the nation are changing—this time in the most profound ways since the early days of the Cold War. Once again Los Alamos and the nuclear weapons program must respond by building on our rich heritage and unique scientific and engineering capabilities to meet the new challenges. New Methods for Identifying Microorganisms as potential bioterrorism agents with Emphasis on Chromatography-Mass Spectrophotometry (GC-MS): Narrative Review
Today, with the development of microbiology, biotechnology, and cellular and molecular genetics, human knowledge of microorganisms has increased and the possibility of making biological weapons with pervasive effects has increased. On the other hand, bioterrorist events and the construction of laboratories and sites for the production of biological weapons in many developed and developing count...
متن کاملThe Non-Aligned Movement and Nuclear Disarmament: Stance and Actions
The emergence of nuclear weapons as a new actor in international relations has introduced a new area in the international security arena. Since the appearance of these weapons, there have been increasing efforts to limit and destroy them in order to achieve global peace in the framework of disarmament and centered around the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. Along with the eme...
متن کاملReduction of Reservoir Fluid Equilibrium Calculation for Peng-Robinson EOS with Zero Interaction Coefficients
For some of the EOS models the dimension of equilibrium problem can be reduced. Stability and difficulties in implementation are among the problems of flash calculation. In this work, a new reduction technique is presented to prepare a reduced number of equilibrium equations. Afterwards, a number of appropriate solution variables are selected for the prepared equation system to solve the equati...
متن کاملThe Comparison of Direct and Indirect Optimization Techniques in Equilibrium Analysis of Multibody Dynamic Systems
The present paper describes a set of procedures for the solution of nonlinear static-equilibrium problems in the complex multibody mechanical systems. To find the equilibrium position of the system, five optimization techniques are used to minimize the total potential energy of the system. Comparisons are made between these techniques. A computer program is developed to evaluate the equality co...
متن کاملREDEFINED FUZZY SUBALGEBRAS OF BCK/BCI-ALGEBRAS
Using the notion of anti fuzzy points and its besideness to and nonquasi-coincidence with a fuzzy set, new concepts in anti fuzzy subalgebras in BCK/BCI-algebras are introduced and their properties and relationships are investigated.
